Your Thanet :: Article :: Southern Landlords Association goes for judicial review on Thanet Council licensing plans

A plan by Thanet District Council to introduce ‘selective licensing’ for property landlords looks set to be challenged in front of a High Court judge.

The Southern Landlords Association said the new style of licensing for parts of Cliftonville and Margate Central would "blight" properties, tenants, and the landlords themselves.

Peter Littlewood, from the association, said: "Certain properties with many tenants over three floors do need licensing. What we are worried about is this Selective Licensing."

He said Thanet Council had told them these licences will help counter anti-social behaviour in parts of Cliftonville and Margate Central. Under the scheme all rental properties in the designated area will have to apply for a licence, paying the appropriate fees.
