Cambridgeshire's homes are worth £55 billion, new research has revealed.

Property firm Savills came up with the figure as part of a survey of the UK’s housing stock.

The statistics also show the value of homes nationally has doubled on average over the last decade.

James Barnett, of Savills in Cambridge, said the eastern region came third in the national league table for the value of its property.

He said one reason for the high value was the region’s “commutability”, and its environmental credentials.

He said: “As a region, the East of England is ranked third by value behind the South East and London.
