What happens if joint homeowners disagree over a sale? | Money | guardian.co.uk

Q My wife, along with her two brothers and sister, is co-owner of her late mother's house, which was transferred to all four of them 20 years ago. This was done on a simple conveyance and I can find no trace of the title or registration at the Land Registry. No one knows what sort of tenancy is in operation here, and the conveyance document is not specific.

My wife's mother died recently so the house can now be sold. A good offer has been made that three of the four siblings want to accept, but one is refusing to sell saying the price is not enough, even though the buyer's offer is well above market valuations.

This refusal to sell is causing much family disharmony. Is it possible to obtain a court order or other legal mechanism to force the sale and override the wishes of the one person who is blocking the sale?
