Owners can leave homes empty for two years | Mail Online

There are few horrors more calculated to raise the anger of homeowners than the idea of squatters taking over an empty property.
Except, that is, in the Devon village of Harberton. There, many villagers have signed a petition demanding that a self-employed builder, Bill Davies, be allowed to stay at a cottage in which he has been squatting for several months.

They say they are pleased to see the run-down property, which they nicknamed Eyesore Cottage, being brought back into use. While the villagers of Harberton support their squatter, the Government has adopted a policy that will make it harder to bring empty homes back into use.
