RICS: House prices fall as interest rate hike fears bite | This is Money

House prices continued to drop in January as demand was struck by fears that an interest rate hike is around the corner, according to the latest survey.

The closely watched Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors survey today showed 31% of estate agents reporting a fall in house prices in the month, as speculation grows over whether the Bank of England will soon lift the base rate from its rock-bottom 0.5%.

Despite the price drop, the survey represents an improvement for the last three months in succession and stands at its best level since July.
