Town council backs plans for huge new estate (From Oxford Mail)
A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build 1,000 homes to the west of Carterton has been backed by the town council.
But parish councillors in Alvescot, south west of the town, have hit out at the decision, calling it premature and inappropriate.
West Oxfordshire District Council has earmarked Carterton for major housing development up to 2026 in a planning blueprint now out to public consultation.
But district councillors are undecided whether to develop west of the Shill Brook Valley or east of the town towards Brize Norton.
Development to the north has been ruled out.
