London property: Capital gains amid the gloom - Telegraph

London property: Capital gains amid the gloom - Telegraph

London at the moment has a spring in its step, and Lee and Joanna Hopperton are taking advantage.

They have just sold their four-bedroom house in Clapham with remarkable ease. With their three children Ella, six, Charlotte, four, and Henry, two, they are moving to Sevenoaks, where they will have a good choice of schools and a bigger garden.

Market stagnant? Hard to sell? Not a bit of it. They sold the house in Marmion Road three times in three weeks. They had nine viewings in the first three days after putting it on the market with Douglas & Gordon at £895,000.

“We ended up with so many offers we went to blind bids,” Joanna says. “We chose a buyer without a chain, but after the earthquake in Japan he pulled out so we went to the underbidder. That fell through as well but we immediately found another buyer.” Tellingly, all were parents looking for sensible family houses.
