British jazz singers don’t come more successful than Clare Teal, 39, who has ten albums to her name and presents two weekly jazz shows on BBC Radio 2. But getting herself rehoused has proved far more complicated.
A lucrative income stream – Sony signed her in a £3 million five-album deal in 2004 (an unprecedented amount for a jazz singer) – still does not guarantee a step up the ladder if you have another property to offload.
In this case, it’s a pleasant top-floor flat in a beautiful Georgian crescent in Bath. Last year Clare and her long-term partner and manager, Amanda ‘Muddy’ Field, 50, tried to sell up to buy a converted mill they had fallen for near Stroud in the Cotswolds.
