Disgraced banker Dominique Strauss-Kahn was tonight released from jail after a judge finally approved his bail application - in spite of last-minute hitches.
The former head of the International Monetary Fund was taken from the notorious Rikers Island prison to a location in downtown Manhattan, on Broadway near to Ground Zero.
He will remain there for three or four days before being moved to another location which will be decided next week.
A judge in New York's Supreme Court made the ruling after a tense hearing during which it looked likely that Strauss-Kahn would have to spend the weekend in jail after his first choice of apartment to live in on release fell through.
