Selling a house isn’t easy these days, but painter-decorator Janet Watkinson has a novel way of attracting buyers to her two-bedroom cottage in Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire. She’s offering to paint the interior for the new owners, free of charge.

“House prices around here are on the floor,” says Janet. “I’ve dropped my price as far as I can (£250,000), but it occurred to me I could provide another incentive. I’m asking buyers to pay for the paint, but I’ll provide the labour for nothing. If I was charging, it would cost £1,000.”
