Why it's time to buy a cottage - Telegraph

'Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to own a cottage. It is the fairy tale thing,” says Andrea Smith. For 11 years she has lived with her Jack Russell dog in a little Grade II listed thatched cottage made of cut stone with two bedrooms and open fields running away at the back.

This is in Sandy Lane, near Chippenham in Wiltshire, much admired for the thatched cottages built by the Bowood Estate for agricultural workers in the 1750s.

“I used to drive past and think 'wouldn’t it be wonderful to live in one of those,’” says Andrea. But now she is selling at £325,000 through Carter Jonas (01249 706000) to settle down with a new partner closer to where he works.
