Young people predict they will be 12 years older than their parents were when buying a first home, research reveals today.

The findings highlight the nightmare facing a generation crippled by house prices that only the rich can afford.

Researchers asked parents how old they were when they bought their first home – and asked young people how old they expect they will be.
