A pretty rose-covered cottage is like a nice cup of tea — instantly reviving. Yet the thrust of the market for first-time buyers and young families remains firmly aimed at new homes and flats.
According to Martin Jordan, of Chesterton Humberts’ Canterbury office, the charm of the old-fashioned cottage has had its day.
‘Older homes aren’t a core market for us,’ he says. ‘Though buyers may appreciate their quirkiness and character, period properties often require more upkeep.’
