Within seconds of arriving at Alex James’s farm I am whisked into the kitchen, past a hoard of lightsabre-wielding children, and fed cheese. He is chuckling away at reaction in the press to his new range of supermarket cheeses, which include toast-shaped cheddar and tomato ketchup “blankets” and – the one that left the food critics choking on their crackers – a “cheddar tikka masala”.
“It’s fantastic,” he says. “The gastro equivalent of punk rock.”
