Homebuilding and Renovating Awards 2011: Fairytale endings for those with a dream - Telegraph

Not many people live in a tourist attraction. Fewer still build a house which becomes one. But that is just what has happened to the overall winners of this year's Telegraph-sponsored Homebuilding and Renovating Awards.

"There's a railway line nearby, and quite often people get off the train specially, just to come and have a look," says Jo Jordan, who built the extraordinary Belle Grove Farm, at Westhall, in Suffolk, with husband Nick Fisher.

This is hardly surprising, since their house looks like it has come straight out of a fairy tale. Its extraordinary architecture suggests that it was designed by a combination of hobbits, wizards and gingerbread men. Right up to the dragon which is draped over the chimney.

"It's made of metal mesh, so that the wind blows through it, and doesn't bring the chimney down. But it causes quite a stir."
