Ask the expert: property ownership issues - Telegraph

I have just discovered that our family home is in my husband’s name, not our joint names as I had always assumed. He says it makes no difference and although we are happy, I do wonder what would happen if we separate?

Even though the house is not in your name, it is a marital asset that will be taken into account in any separation. Since you are married, you have automatic rights which protect your occupation.
