Sometime after 2.45pm on May 2 in the Nursery Pavilion at Lord's, the MCC hopes to drive a stump through the heart of a £625 million Vision for Lord’s plan to redevelop the home of cricket.
On April 2, all 18,000 members were asked by postal ballot to reject the idea of four blocks of flats on the very spot where the annual general meeting is being held and the result of the ballot announced.
A 15-page report sent to members along with the ballot papers by the president, Phillip Hodson, details the chronology of events that led the MCC to spend £3 million over six years on The Vision. Despite this, Hodson and chairman Oliver Stocken now want the 250,000 square feet of flats scrapped.Hence the motion “not to permit any residential development” on a 124-foot wide strip that the MCC failed to buy in 1999.
