How can I protect my home from the rain? - Telegraph

This time of year we usually see interest in decking and building outdoor barbecue areas, but we are instead seeing a surge of jobs relating to flood damage,” says Ryan Notz, CEO of MyBuilder.com. Here are our tips for rain-proofing your home in our extreme summer weather:
Prevention is better than cure, so do ensure your gutters are clear and working.
Test them by pouring water in yourself, or get a tradesman to check them annually.
Have a plumber fit non-return valves to drains and pipes, as this can prevent dirty water being forced up and into your home.
Have a look in the loft. If you can see daylight through your roof then rain will get in. Call out a roofer while it is dry.
