Experts predict house price falls as mortgage lending drops - Telegraph

The amount lent by mortgage companies fell slightly last month and is 4pc down from the same time last year, the Council of Mortgage Lenders said.

The figures, which include people remortgaging as well as purchasing new homes, show that buyers are still struggling to get funding from the banks, while subdued economic activity is also contributing to the weakness.

The Council of Mortgage data (CML) reported that gross mortgage lending edged back to £12.6 billion in July. This was down from £12.7 billion in June. It was also down by 4.1pc from £13.1 billion in August 2011.
