SWANSEA Council is contacting hundreds of landlords in the city to ensure they are prepared for their new tenants when the new college term starts.
Thousands of students will be moving to the city to take up university courses and many will be living in rented accommodation.
The council will be writing to landlords that rent out houses of multiple occupation (HMOs) to make sure the properties are safe and fit for purpose.
The letters will remind landlords of their duties and responsibilities to their tenants. This includes ensuring they are aware of specific licensing conditions that relate to HMOs.
Many HMOs in the city, including all in the Castle and Uplands wards, require the landlord to hold a licence before their property is rented out. Failure to do this can result in a costly fine.
Other issues including gas safety certificates and highlighting tenants' responsibilities will also be included in the letter to landlords
