Retirement property emerges from the doldrums as demand grows | Mail Online
If you’re keen to stay active in old age, the choices are legion, says Colin Coates.
The inescapable truth that we’re not getting any younger is more relevant than ever. There are about ten million over-65s in Britain and the Office for National Statistics says that’s due to increase to more than 16 million by 2033.
Demand for property that caters for older buyers is high. Specialist search website Retirement Homesearch says sales through its site are at their highest level since 2007.
While the recession has slowed development, many firms are announcing plans for new projects over the next 12 months. And there has never been a wider choice, from villages that, while managed, provide independence, to town flats with varying levels of care and developments with 24-hour nursing and on-site care homes.
