A new nation of Rigsbys: Number of lodgers doubles in a year | Mail Online

Over the past year the number of homeowners renting out a room has doubled. We are officially a nation of Rigsbys.
More than 950,000 homes currently have a lodger, compared with just 477,000 in 2011, according to a study by insurer LV.
Judy Niner, founder of rental website mondaytofriday.com, says: ‘We see all sorts of people renting out rooms: parents whose children have gone to university, divorcees who want to stay in the family home, or those struggling with bills.
‘It’s a great way to raise some extra cash or simply have some company.’
