Worsening plight of the accidental landlords stuck with TWO loans | Mail Online
Professional landlords might be coining it in during this period of record rents, but what about that growing army of amateur – or ‘accidental’ – landlords?
There could be as many as half a million such homeowners, it is estimated, who let their properties because they cannot or do not want to sell them.
No one knows the precise number, but there are 1.4 million mortgages lent to landlords, about two-thirds of whom have just one property to let.
This figure excludes those who have no mortgage, but gives an indication of the scale of the army of small-time landlords, many of whom drifted into the property business without fully intending to.
