Property market 'can be difficult for couples'

Property market 'can be difficult for couples'

A campaign group has spoken out to say that couples entering the property market together face dangers when doing so.

PricedOut said that couples who buy a property together and then separate could have problems dividing up their joint home.

Matt Griffith, spokesman for the company, emphasised that in this situation there could be an even greater financial than emotional cost.

However, Mr Griffith said: "The growing number of first time-buyers buying as couples is a good indicator of how high house prices are right now."

In addition, Rightmove has released figures which show that the percentage of first-buyers who plan to purchase a property with their partner is now 72.5 per cent, an increase on 2009's figure of 62.1 per cent.

The company's research also showed that during the same time period the number of individuals who were planning to buy alone has recently reached 25.5 per cent, a fall from the 32.7 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2009.
