How to get a mortgage when returning to Britain - Telegraph

Expats looking to return to the UK, or simply to regain a foothold on the property ladder, are finding life tougher since the credit crunch.

With the tightening of the terms of mortgages and lending criteria, it is now more difficult to find lenders who are willing to provide mortgages to those who are UK-based, let alone those who are offshore.

Tim Harvey, managing director of Offshoreonline.org, a specialist in expat mortgages, said: “Since the credit crisis, many lenders have either been forced into the same banking group – Lloyds for example controls C&G, BM Solutions, Halifax and Bank of Scotland International - or like Skipton Building Society, they have effectively withdrawn from the market.
