BBC News - Surveyor Mary-Jane Rathie jailed for £10m mortgage scam

A senior surveyor who took gifts worth £1m for her part in a £10m mortgage scam for London properties has been jailed for six years.

Mary-Jane Rathie of Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, got money and cars to inflate valuations to secure the loans.

Last month the 43-year-old was convicted of five counts of fraud and concealing criminal property.

Judge Timothy Pontius told her it was a "tragedy" that someone with her work record was in the dock.

Her then husband, Met Police officer David Rathie, of Cheshunt, had been cleared of a charge of concealing criminal property at the old Bailey trial last month.
