IF I could live anywhere in Britain it would probably be Avebury in Wiltshire. This village sits in the centre of a stone circle and it’s always struck me as a wonderfully magical place to live. Stonehenge is just down the road but to me the world famous monument is just plain ugly and I can’t understand why more tourists don’t forsake that stone circle for the one around Avebury.

Properties do occasionally come onto the market in this tiny village (population under 500) near Marlborough. This quintessential English three-bedroom cottage in the centre of Avebury is currently on the market for £375,000. It’s Grade II listed and has a thatched roof.
