David Coulthard supports charity auction - Telegraph
Through my career in motor racing I have known and met many people who have had accidents and suffered from spinal cord injuries.
I myself have been lucky on more than one occasion. I survived some major shunts, as well as a serious plane crash. Others were not so lucky.
My first contact with someone in that situation was my first boss in Formula One, Sir Frank Williams, who had a road accident in France in 1986 which left him partially paralysed.
I witnessed first-hand the difficulties he faced as a quadriplegic moving around, functioning, travelling the world, and it made a big impression on me.
