A Hollywood home linked to Ronald Reagan and Bob Dylan - Telegraph

Even in the rich folklore of Hollywood real estate, it is hard to beat the story, dating from the Eighties, of Richard Gere coming to view a property that, unknown to him, had a celebrity tenant.

Gere, house-hunting at the time, wanted to inspect the master bedroom, but was refused admission by the man inside, who kept the door firmly shut. “But I am Richard Gere,” the actor protested. “And I am Bob Dylan,” came a voice from behind the door. Game, set and match to the singer-songwriter. Why should the great poet of American protest put himself out for a mere movie star?

Poor Gere – who was hot Hollywood property after the success of American Gigolo and An Officer and a Gentleman – had to view the property at a time more convenient to Mr Dylan.
