Almost 700,000 housing claimants have spare room subsidised by state | Mail Online

Hundreds of millions of pounds in taxpayers’ money is being wasted every year on benefit claimants who are being paid to live in houses that are larger than they need.
Almost one third of all social housing tenants in receipt of housing benefit live in homes with more bedrooms than they require and far bigger than most hard-working families could afford.
Almost 700,000 have a spare room subsidised by the state, with another 150,000 receiving housing benefit to cover the cost of homes with two or more spare rooms.
