Bank of England: Surprise boost in number of mortgage approvals defies eurozone banking pressure | Mail Online

There was a boost for the beleaguered housing market today as new figures showed a surprise rise in the number of mortgages approved in November, defying increased pressure on banks from the eurozone.

The unexpected rise meant mortgage approvals for new house purchases reached its highest point in almost two years, according to the Bank of England.

But economists warned of deals becoming more restricted as banks tighten lending conditions as the economic outlook continues to remains uncertain.
