When the house at Mill Place Farm in the depths of the Sussex countryside was built almost 700 years ago, it took just eight men a matter of weeks to put up.

Restoring and extending it in the 21st Century, however, has taken teams of master craftsmen two-and-a-half years and cost its owners, Christen and Alison Monge, the best part of half a million pounds.

But the result was worth the effort, and today the house is a warm and welcoming five-bedroom family home and a faithful re-creation of 14th Century architecture and building methods.
