Buying a new home should save you a small fortune in energy costs compared with what you would spend in a leaky old home.
Officially, Britain's homes are becoming more and more energy-efficient as we head towards 2016, after which every new property built in Britain is supposed to be 'carbon-neutral'.
New homes built in England in the third quarter of 2010, according to the Department for Communities and Local Government, scored an average Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) rating of 79.3 out of 100.
