One in ten homeowners over the age of 75 is still paying off a mortgage, figures reveal today.
Disturbingly, their average outstanding debt is a hefty £72,500.
The report, by the insurance giant Aviva, highlights the millions of older people who have no savings or pension and still have to cope with debts.
