The houses in Jolibois that are owned by the Brits are easy to spot because they are the ones that look most French. While the locals prefer to live in modern pavillons with PVC shutters, it is les Anglais who buy poetic ruins on the steepest cobbled streets; places often held together by little more than the willpower of woodworm. It is these houses that satisfy their mental picture of how a rural French house should look.
