YES To a factory on a greenfield site... NO To rebuilding a Georgian house | Mail Online

When Burnaston House, a Grade II listed early 19th Century gentleman's residence, found itself condemned by Toyota's plan to build a new car factory in countryside to the south of Derby in the early Nineties, local developer Kevin Ellis had an idea.

Rather than see it bulldozed and dumped in a landfill site, he bought the building and took it down, carefully numbering each rafter, architrave and every one of the 3,000 sandstone blocks that formed its handsome facade. He hoped to put it up on another site nearby.
But 20 years on, the house remains in pieces.
