William Hague gave a punchy performance as he rounded on critics who have claimed he’s lost his ‘mojo’. The Foreign Secretary insisted he would not quit, despite speculation he had tired of front-line politics.

But matters will not be helped by the return to the fray of the young man who was thought to have put a spring in Hague’s step in his early months at the Foreign Office.

I am talking of Christopher Myers, Hague’s youthful former special adviser, who resigned after it emerged that the two men had shared a hotel room during last year’s General Election campaign.
