UK Market Rises Notably
(RTTNews) - The UK market is notably higher on Monday, as sentiment was boosted across European markets by the news of Deutsche Telekom selling the T-Mobile USA unit. Markets in Asia/Pacific that mostly ended in the green and the rising U.S. index futures also encouraged risk-appetite.
The FTSE 100 index opened at 5,718 and has been in positive territory. The index is currently adding 1.16 percent.
The Euro Stoxx 50 index of euro zone blue chippers is advancing 1.82 percent, while the Stoxx Europe 50 index, which includes some major U.K. companies, is gaining 1.70 percent.
Vodafone is climbing 3.7 percent buoyed by Germany's Deutsche Telekom selling the T-Mobile USA unit to AT& T Inc. for $39 billion. BT Group is rising about 2 percent.
Barclays is adding 3.3 percent. HSBC Holdings, Standard Chartered and Lloyds Banking Group is climbing between 1.8 percent and 1.4 percent.
