Islington is celebrating being one of the biggest winners of the government's New Homes Bonus fund.

The borough received £3.7m of the £200m awarded to local authorities that build the most new homes.
In the last 10 years, the council says more than 4,200 affordable homes have been built in Islington, one of the highest number in the north London sub-region.

Islington is projecting nearly 1,000 new affordable units will be completed this year (2011/12), more than half will be for social rent and the remainder intermediate rented and shared ownership, the council said.

Only Tower Hamlets got a larger share of the fund, receiving £4.3m.
