Orlit replacements mean it's now 'impossible to park in Rose Hill', say residents (From Oxford Mail)
HUNDREDS of new homes are putting an “unbearable strain” on parking on an Oxford estate.
Residents last night said the influx of new people in Rose Hill means there was now a daily scrum to find a place.
In the past three years, 98 Orlit homes – cheap pre-fab houses built after the Second World War – have been pulled down and replaced with more than 250 new homes in areas including Rivermead Road and Thames View.
And in December a further 38 new council homes were opened in Lambourne Road.
Rivermead Road resident Vim Rodrigo said: “The influx of people has but an unbearable strain on parking.
“In the day it’s okay because people are at work, but in the evening it is absolutely crammed.
“We used to have off-street parking in an area with garages, but now they have built about six houses where that was.
“On our estate there were about 98 houses pulled down and in their place about 254 houses, or accommodation, went up. That doesn’t even include the Lambourne Road development.
“It’s really crammed in and of course most people have cars.”
