Cameron called on to back construction industry | News | Inside Housing

David Cameron has called on Britain to ‘get building again’ as figures show a drop in construction.

Speaking at Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday April 27, Mr Cameron acknowledged that the UK economy was being dragged down by the building industry.

The industry is estimated by the Office of National Statistics to have fallen by 4.7 per cent over the last quarter. The overall economy recorded just 0.5 per cent growth.

Mr Cameron said: ‘What’s happening in the construction industry is disappointing. We do need to get Britain building again.’

His words were welcomed by the Get Britain Building (GBB) campaign who called on the Prime Minister to stay true to his words.

Mike Leonard, spokesman for GBB and director of the Modern Masonry Alliance, said: ‘With 5 million people on the housing waiting list and building material manufacturing capacity and skills being eroded we call on Mr Cameron to turn his fine words into positive action. Our industry is ready and willing to respond.’
