Shangri-La Ranch: The house that inspired Bob Dylan - Telegraph

When Eric Clapton was seeking inspiration for his album No Reason to Cry, it wasn’t only the cult guitarist’s fondness for benders of brandy and vodka that gave him musician’s block. It was his glorious surroundings, too. Clapton was staying at the now legendary Shangri-La Ranch in Malibu, California. It was the winter of 1975, the year the Band, Bob Dylan’s five-strong posse, had bought the ocean-view complex, first built as a bungalow in 1958. They co-owned it with award-winning record producer and audio engineer Rob Fraboni – “a genius”, says Keith Richards in his autobiography Life.

It was Fraboni who constructed and designed the recording studio that would turn this unimposing beachfront retreat into a piece of rock ’n’ roll history.
