Will £70m Bling Towers have to be bulldozed? Nobody wants to buy Britain's most expensive home | Mail Online

This should have been a good week for Updown Court. The news that the Weirs, from Ayrshire, have won the £161 million lottery jackpot means there is now one more family in Britain who can afford to buy the country’s most expensive house.

The Surrey mansion was put up for sale in 2005 for £70 million. Six years on, and with the asking price slashed in half, it remains unsold — and the fear is that nobody will ever live there.

Following the collapse of the Irish bank that funded its construction, the 103-room mansion is now effectively owned by the Irish state.
