Commercial Property News - Commercial property users directed towards university towns

Companies currently considering where to base themselves by leasing commercial property have been advised to head to university towns.

Liam Bailey, head of residential research at Knight Frank, explained there are a number of factors that make locations with higher education institutions the place to be.

He noted these towns tend to be more economically robust, with their financial make-up usually more diverse.

"It will possibly have a more mixed economy and it will probably have more technical spin-offs from the university and the research and development, so the economy of the town is probably more healthy," explained Mr Bailey.

As a result, he recommended investment property buyers – and potentially leasers – prioritise university towns, with a more educated workforce said to be another benefit.

Lloyds TSB recently revealed that house prices in new university towns have risen by 70 per cent over the last ten years, compared with a 64 per cent surge in more traditional education destinations.
