Having arrived with Michael and Carole Middleton in the Queen’s carriage procession at Royal Ascot, after being entertained at Windsor Castle, Dr Jim Hay and his glamorous wife, Fitri, have acquired a suitably grand residence of their own.

Mandrake can disclose that the racehorse owners have bought Birch Grove, the former home of Harold Macmillan in West Sussex, for an estimated £25 million.

The property was previously owned by Larry Yung, the Chinese tycoon. Yung spent £10 million on a private golf course, but is rumoured to have played only six times. On each occasion, he and his guests were followed by a refreshment cart bearing smoked salmon and a full drinks bar.

The good news for the Duchess of Cambridge’s parents is that Dr Hay plans to reinstate the shoot on the 800-acre and install an indoor swimming pool.

  1. Wow, very pricey house! I hope they could make sure plumbing system is working properly during the warmer months of the year. Issues due to age and weather conditions can result in serious plumbing problems.
