Halifax: House prices fall just 1% in a year despite gloom | Mail Online
Even the threat of a double-dip recession, rising unemployment and frozen wages have failed to put a serious dent in Halifax's average house prices measure over the past year.
The average house price was £161,731 in November which means it was down 1% over the past twelve months and 0.7 per cent over the course of 2011, showing relative stability in an otherwise highly turbulent year.
Halifax housing economist Martin Ellis said: 'House prices have remained remarkably stable in 2011 despite the difficult and deteriorating economic climate and the substantial pressure on households' finances.'
