It's a bold claim, but Lord Best believes his recent idea about housing will "solve all the country's problems".
He suggests building 100,000 new retirement, supported housing and extra-care homes per year to encourage older residents to downsize into more suitable accommodation, freeing up larger properties for families and first-time buyers.
Addressing a gathering of housing and care professionals in London this week, he said: "Nearly all of the 7.8m people of pensionable age have more than two spare rooms, making way for 350,000 family [members] with children."
