Letting agents are stinging tenants with expensive and often unclear fees, a This is Money investigation can reveal. One agent even imposes a £30 charge for leaving furniture out-of-place.

We found that renters in London are being charged anything from £150 to £420 just for setting up a tenancy agreement, with the amount changing depending on where you live.
London's red-hot lettings arena has traditionally been the location where agents have the most leverage to name their charges, but there are fears that the practices could spread to more cities and towns around Britain, as increasing demand is put on the rental market.
