Rental increases will change the face of the student accommodation market - Select Property

Increasing rents in house shares will drive even more students into higher quality studios and apartments.

In summary:
  • Some locations have seen rental increases as high as 25 percent
  • Highly desired locations see rents rise
  • Students want more for their money with studios and apartments
The student property market is already financially pleasing for the investor, but it is set to become even more lucrative because rents have increased for student property.
Data from Accommodation For Students states that on a year-on-year basis, student rents have increased by 2.4 percent from 2011 to this year. The data highlights that some locations have seen dramatic increases in rents including Lancaster in the North West, where rents rose by 24 percent and Hull and Durham in the North East where rental increases of 25 and 20 percent respectively were seen.
