Court rules unmarried couples won't get 50/50 split on shared properties | Mail Online

A man who left his partner nearly 20 years ago is not entitled to half the value of the house they shared, the Supreme Court has ruled.

The decision could set a precedent for unmarried couples around the UK after ruling that 51 year old Leonard Kernott was entitled to 10 per cent of the value rather than half, as a previous ruling had decided.

Mr Kernott and Patricia Jones, 56, bought the bungalow in 1985 and took out a joint mortgage. In 2008 the property was valued at £240,000.
